Kathy encourages students to bring their own sewing machines, so they can learn on their own machines and continue with projects and lessons at home. Kathy's studio is, however, fully equipped with a variety of different sewing machines, ranging from simple easy-to-use beginner machines to complex embroidery machines. It is also equipped with specialty machines such as sergers for special projects. Kathy's studio is also fully equipped with cutting boards, irons, rotary cutters and other "tools of the trade".
Kathy has an extensive collection of leftover scraps from a wide variety of projects which can be used by students for class exercises. For more complex projects, such as making clothes, Kathy maintains a list of stores in the greater Worcester area and beyond, where you can buy materials by the yard, often at a fraction of the full retail price. Kathy also has a number of on-line stores that are the go-to places for affordable threads and other notions.
As part of your Intro Class, Kathy will show you how to clean and oil your machine. Also, if your machine needs repair, Kathy can refer you to good resources for servicing a variety of sewing machines.
